THRU THE FIRE: Fundraiser for iamcreativejustice.org
Celebrating the life of Milini Antanez Turner, Sun-Christopher Turner presents THRU THE FIRE, a fundraiser for the I Am Justice Scholarship Fund at Spelman College.
I AM Creative Justice honors Sun-Christopher’s mother, Milini Turner, ethnographer, doll-maker and American lost to police brutality. The goal of I AM Creative Justice and its scholarship program is to raise awareness about the hidden faces of police brutality and violence.
THRU THE FIRE will be an evening of reflection, remembrance, and education. Performances by DJ Tabone, Q of Cyphahouse, and Sun-Christopher will accompany creative videography addressing the senseless loss of Milini Turner’s and others' lives.
The scholarship goal of $100,000 will be awarded to Spelman College juniors and seniors focused on careers in social, legal, and international justicers. Additionally, students whose families have survived and been victims of police brutality will be eligible recipients. I AM Creative Justice aims to award multiple scholarships to strong students with a passion for social justice. Police violence impacts the lives of many in our communities and I AM Creative Justice combats the senseless brutality through education, awareness, and memory.
Organizer, Sun-Christopher explains, “With the financial backing of our community and the guidance of restless souls calling for justice and critical police reform, we are determined to hold criminals accountable regardless of which side of the badge the criminal is on. We are determined to help educate Spelman students who hail from families who are the hidden victims of police violence much like me and my family.”
