eyedrum presents: Music For Woods and Metals by Casen Alesi
Percussionist Casen Alesi presents a night of contemporary marimba and vibraphone music, ranging from the beautiful and intense music of Olivier Messiaen to the perpetual grooves of Steve Reich and many other living composers.
At the young age of 19, and described as endlessly creative and diverse, percussionist Casen Alesi is one of the nation's finest. He has performed in prestigious ensembles such as the Macy's Great American Marching Band, Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony, National Youth Wind Ensemble, and The Georgia Philharmonic. He has also performed with some of the music industry's finest, ranging from trombonist Joseph Alessi and trumpet player Jon Faddis to composers Frank Ticheli and Bruce Broughton.
Casen had always been interested in music, listening to artists ranging from Dizzy Gillespie to Skrillex and Daft Punk growing up. Around the age of 9, however, he started showing interest in the more experimental side of music. His first taste of avant-garde music was when he came across the album "Duckstab" by The Residents. This lit a fire in him, leading him to discover more artists and composers, ranging from Pierre Boulez to Pharaoh Sanders and many more.
Casen is currently a percussion performance major at Kennesaw State University, with aspirations of being an ambassador of new music and being part of a major touring ensemble.
