The Atlanta Improvisers Orchestra is a supergroup of the weirdest and wildest members of Atlanta's experimental music scene, united by composer Ofir Klemperer to explore the possibilities of large group improvisation. The group spontaneously creates exquisite orchestral soundscapes and compositions using the concept of conduction, or conducted improvisation, that harnesses and encourages the unpredictable ideas, individual imaginations, and diverse approaches to music that each musician brings.
This evening will feature a first workshop performance of a musical score composed by Ro(b)//ert Lundberg called Seeking Clarity. This is part of a larger multimedia performance and book project by Chicagoans Alexandra Lakind and Lundberg and Atlantan Aaron Walker investigating underground water pipes and how such hidden systems manifest private property relations and clean (or not) drinking water. To learn more, read Lakind and Lundberg's piece from last year, Reconsidering the Aqueduct.
Lundberg makes music and image, thinks about and drinks water. They have performed a wide range of music throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe both solo and with outfits such as JOBS, Skeletons, Nestle, In One Wind, and Leverage Models at venues and festival such as Carnegie Hall, JVC Jazz Festival, Newport Folk Festival, and Big Ears Festival. Their photography, video, and installation work often focuses on the interaction of human infrastructure and the spaces it inhabits. They earned a BFA in Jazz Performance from The New School (New York) and graduate degrees in Law and Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they were a graduate fellow of the Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies.
