Join us for the Artist Talk taking place at eyedrum on Sunday April 16 at 2pm for the exhibition Visionary Mode, a multi-media collaboration between Megan Mosholder and David Clifton-Strawn.
Megan Mosholder describes the project this way: "Visionary Mode is a visual metaphor expressing my frustration with my perpetual recovery and permanent disability, resulting in lost relationships and opportunities due to what I assume are ablist notions of what it means to be a capable and independent individual.
The only viable solution I found to deal with all these issues was to make art about it using my usual medium of rope and light.
My experience of exposing my scars while also making the choice to be confined by rope is just one more step on this long journey toward self-acceptance and empowerment.
These photographs are a reminder for myself that only I can stop me from being successful in this life."
David Clifton-Strawn added that for him, he views his photographs as a kind of mandala. A way for the viewer to explore the physical changes Megan has endured and reflect on their own challenges and our responses to those circumstances. In working with Jack Handcock to design and construct these tableaux, Clifton-Strawn was able to gain a deeper understanding of Megan and her life and also his own struggles with loss, addiction and recovery.
